The Fourth Session of Zhejiang University “Guiding Horizon” International Faculty Salon Series was Successfully Held
On May 8, the HR department of Zhejiang University (ZJU) hosted the fourth session of its “Guiding Horizon” International Salon Series at the Hainayuan Building 4 on the Zijingang Campus. Focused on clarifying university services and policies for international faculty. Du Yue-deputy director of the HR department, Gao Jie-deputy director of HR department, Han Shuchun-deputy director of Security department, Dang Ying-vice chairman of the campus union, Zhou Qiming from the general affairs office and other participants from over 10 countries participated in the event.
In her opening remark, deputy director of the HR Department, GAO Jie, emphasized in the opening speech that as a leading university in the internationalization of Chinese higher education, ZJU has consistently guiding international faculty by facilitating discussion platforms on various agendas. She highlighted that international faculty face diverse challenges when working in China, including understanding and integrating into relevant management and service policies. She hopes that this platform and discuss will enhance the integration of international faculty both in China and on campus.
Han Shuchun, Deputy Director of ZJU’s Security Department, outlined campus safety protocols, addressing critical areas such as cybersecurity fraud prevention, traffic rules, fire safety, emergency procedures and religious activity regulations. He also provided actionable advice for safeguarding personal safety both on and off campus, alongside essential contact information for support services.
Dang Ying, Vice Chairman of ZJU’s Trade Union, highlighted union membership benefits, including holiday gifts, healthcare support, recreational activities, and professional development opportunities. She also outlined membership criteria and the union’s role in enhancing work-life balance for international staff.
Zhou Qiming, Manager of the General Affairs Division (Housing Reform and Property Operation), detailed guidelines for faculty apartment reservations and housing policies, ensuring clarity for international staff navigating residential logistics.
Gao Mingxi from the Human Resources Department’s Resource Allocation and Support Center explained China’s social insurance system, covering pension, medical, work injury, unemployment, and maternity insurance, as well as housing provident fund eligibility and application processes tailored for international faculty.
During the Q&A session, participants raised pressing questions about campus security protocols, family visitation policies, e-bike regulations, and other related issues were briefly answered by a Deputy Director Han. Queries regarding children’s access to local education under Hangzhou’s hukou system were addressed collaboratively by Gao Mingxi and Dang Ying. Attendees praised the salon as a vital platform for bridging information gaps, with many its practical value in navigating life and work at ZJU.
