The First Zhejiang University "Guiding Horizon" International Faculty Salon Series Successfully Launched


The inaugural Guiding Horizon International Faculty Salon Series was held on October 25 at Jiangong Zhijia (cafe) at Zijingang campus, Zhejiang University. This series is designed to promote the growth and development of international faculty, providing a platform for learning, exchanging ideas, and staying informed about policies and regulations. The first salon focused on training and sharing experiences for natural science project applications and attracted more than 20 international faculty members from 11 countries.

GAO Jie, the Deputy Director of the Human Resources Department, made the opening speech. She stated that the university places great importance on the development of its foreign faculty team. She expressed hope that the Salon Series would help international faculty overcome multiple challenges and introduced the planned schedule for the salons.


CHEN Guangdi, the Director of the Department of Basic Research and Overseas Projects at the Office of SciTech Research introduced the types of projects that international faculty could apply for and explained the procedures for application. SMIDMAN Michael, tenured associate professor from the Department of Physics, and KENJI Mochzuki, ZJU 100 Young Professor from the Department of Chemistry shared valuable experiences and practical advice. Their insights were well-received, sparking further discussion among attendees who appreciated the opportunity to connect and share experiences.


The first session set a positive tone for future events in the series, creating a collaborative and supportive environment for international faculty at ZJU. The HR Department will continue to develop communication platforms and offer various forms of support to foster an inclusive and harmonious international atmosphere.
